Supreme Court Punts on Whether Voters Can Sue Under the Voting Rights Act; Sends Cases Back to Lower Courts

The Court declined to rule on whether only the DOJ (vs. private voters/groups) can enforce the VRA, instead sending cases back to lower courts. A related Native American tribal voting rights case was also sent back for reconsideration in light of the weakened VRA standard from Callais.
